"The children develop a good understanding of different cultures from the rich cultural mix of pupils." BRES, 2007.

Culture

Besides traditional academic subjects, we realize the importance of exposing children to different customs and cultures in preparation for an effective and sensitive interaction with the modern world. Many of our school trips are therefore oriented towards historical or cultural themes. In addition, we organize several cultural events within school.

India day

As part of prep 4's study of the social history, religion and culture of India, we organize India day, a day when pupils wear Indian national dress and participate in a number of India-inspired art and craft activities. We benefit from a sizeable south Asian parent group who are very willing to participate in India day and who present to the children on topics such as Indian food, religion and geography.

Japanese teaching assistant

Each year we welcome a teaching assistant from Japan. The assistant typically stays for six months. During this time, he or she is invited to share insights into Japanese culture. In the past, our teaching assistant has given talks to the whole school on Japan and in the Transition class has organized a traditional Japanese tea party when the children were dressed in Japanese costume and learnt the rituals involved in formal Japanese hospitality.
