Mrs Harrison has taught drama and theatre studies at all levels, from pre-school to 'A' level. She is the director of Arts Labyrinth, a benevolent group offering drama opportunities for young people, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds. Mrs Harrison has been with St. Philip's for 22 years.

"I love to see young people achieve at any and every level." Mrs Harrison.

Elocution

Extra-curricular classes in elocution, taught by Mrs Harrison, are offered for pupils in the junior school (Preps 1 to 4). Through elocution, students learn to communicate with clarity and confidence. Elocution also enhances vocabulary, logical thought and memory and cultivates an appreciation for literature. Topics include verse speaking, unseen reading for performance, prose recital, public speaking, mime and acting, including improvisation.

Achievement

Mrs Harrisons's students work towards examinations (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) in several disciplines. Typically, pupils reach a high standard by the time they leave Prep 4, often attaining grade 3 in their main subject. Mrs Harrison is proud that 70% of her entrants receive distinction and 10% receive honours.

In November, members of the elocution class compete in the Chelmsford Competitive Festival of Music and Drama, both individually and chorally. We also hold an Easter concert for performing arts when students exhibit their work to the school and parents.
