Religion

General RE

St Philip's Priory is a Catholic school and children are admitted on the understanding that their parents wish them to receive a religious education (RE). Christian principles of compassion and service are the basis for the whole ethos and character of the school and inform all aspects of teaching.

We welcome all faiths. Under the 'Here I am' scheme, set out by the bishop of Brentwood, children learn about other faiths and non-Christians are encouraged to share their faiths and beliefs with the class. Our provision of RE is organized under general spiritual themes. These are explored in religious assemblies and by thoughtful study of the life of Jesus.

Catholic education

Liturgical celebrations and major saints' feast days are observed throughout the year. These occasions provide the opportunity to learn about Catholic beliefs and the history of the Catholic church. Additionally, we have close links with the Church of Our Lady Immaculate on New London Road and make use of the Catholic Directory for England and Wales for preparing Catholic children for the sacraments (Holy Communion).

Of all aspects of our teaching, it is the religious and spiritual components that are most responsible for the moral and self-assured character of children leaving the Priory.
