School life

Good education is about more than just grades and targets. At St. Philip's, we want to develop the whole person. We therefore provide ample opportunity for pupils to enjoy physical, aesthetic and social pursuits, such as drama or community service. Variety makes for happy pupils and we find that such experiences have positive feedback on academic performance.

House competition

To encourage a sense of common purpose and a healthy attitude to competition, we operate a House system. Each pupil is a member of one of four Houses, named after shrines to Our Lady. They compete for trophies at various sporting events, including Sports Day, a swimming gala and interhouse competitions in football, netball, rounders and cricket. Leadership roles are assumed by members of Prep 4.

The House system is also an excellent way to motivate individual performance in school work. Each week, points are awarded for good work and effort and one child in every house gains the prestige of wearing the Merit Badge for the following week, based on points accrued.

Behaviour

We place particular emphasis on behaviour and deportment. Pupils are treated with respect and we expect them to treat others equally well. House points can be won or lost according to conduct. St Philip's is a harmonious community where everyone knows each other and bullying is virtually unheard of.
